Google has launched Android Market, a content distribution platform for Android powered devices. Google itself is hosting this platform. The platform is very much the same as Apple store but it does not have a application process system which approves every application before listing it.

Google talks about The Android version of the iPhone’s App Store stressing that it’s a “market” (free, open, etc) rather than a “store,” Android Market does not require an approval process for developers to have their applications listed. The best thing that helps to exploit the good applications is the rating and comment system which is similar to YouTube. Android Market has a built in functionality just like Apple’s version which provides the infrastructure to host apps in a centralized place, version and update control.

The first Android handsets will come with a beta version of Market that supports free downloads only but long before the devices to come out. Google has hosted Android Developer Challenge and best of all it has announced the winner. Go Cart won the best application prize which is developed by OMG. GoCart is bar code reading application which uses the camera on device to read a barcode. Once read it identifies the product and then search online and local stores to find you the best price.
