Tokyo, Japan, February 11, 2008 - NEC Corporation announced today that it will exhibit the first LiMo-compliant mobile handsets in NEC’s Booth (A125, Hall 8 at Mobile World Congress February 11-14 in Barcelona.

LiMo’s world’s first globally competitive, Linux-based software platform for mobile devices is now available in the worldwide market. The LiMo Foundation, a global consortium of mobile leaders delivering an open handset platform for the whole mobile industry, will showcase handsets in Booth 8b135, Hall 8.

“The breadth of the initial generation of LiMo handsets consolidates LiMo’s role as the unifying force within mobile Linux and highlights the strong momentum established in the 12 months since LiMo was launched,” said Morgan Gillis, executive director of the LiMo Foundation. “Within one year, LiMo has secured powerful industry engagement, announced the on-schedule availability of the LiMo Platform and is today registering the first generation of handsets that use the LiMo Platform. We believe our rapid progress is propelled by LiMo’s inclusive and transparent governance model-with shared leadership and shared decision making-and pragmatic, code-centric approach to open-source innovation.”

The commercial LiMo handsets which are introduced at MWC in Barcelona are the FOMA(TM) N905i, N905i?, N705i, N705i? for NTT DoCoMo, Inc. in Japan sold in the Japanese market. The key software modules for mobile phones contributed to the LiMo Foundation, are included in these four handsets.

Though it is not equipped with mobile TV, the N905i? features slim elegant design with HSDPA, 3G/GSM and other advanced functions. The N705i boasts stylish mobile TV “amadana” brand models designed by consumer-products maker Realfleet and motion-graphics creator TGB Design. The N705i? is the world’s slimmest clamshell-type W-CDMA handsets. Both 705 series of products are HSDPA equipped models.
