NEC LCD Technologies’ New 2.7-Inch TFT LCD Module Delivers Industry-Leading Luminance
Tokyo, April 10, 2007 — NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd. will begin sample shipment of a new 2.7-inch (6.8-centimeters-diagonal) quarter video graphic array (QVGA), amorphous silicon, color, thin-film-transistor (TFT) liquid crystal display (LCD) module, part number NL2432HC17-07A, in August. The new LCD module delivers industry-leading luminance of 550cd/m2 in the category of LCD modules for portable equipment.
The main features of the new LCD module are as follows:
1. Industry-leading luminance of 550cd/m2
Enhanced backlight system efficiency realizes high luminance of 550cd/m2 - 2.75 times brighter than the conventional product, part number NL2432HC17-02A - even though power consumption has only increased by 60%. This results in an improved system that achieves outstanding visibility in any use environment.
2. 2.6mm thickness breaks the 3mm barrier and achieves slim line finish
Optimal design of the total LCD module realizes a significant reduction in size. At 2.6mm thick, the new LCD module is 20% (approx. 0.6mm) smaller than its preceding model; NL2432HC17-02A. The size reduction will enable manufacturers to significantly downsize portable devices equipped with the new model.
3. Equipped with timing controller and DC-DC converter
Equipped with a timing controller and a DC-DC converter, the new LCD module offers a range of benefits to manufacturers of portable information devices, from a reduction in development costs and lead time, to the miniaturization of portable information devices.
NEC LCD Technologies has been developing high value-added, small-sized LCD modules, not only for next generation personal digital assistants (PDAs) and personal navigation devices (PNDs), but also for a variety of portable equipment for industrial use such as handheld bar-code scanners, and handheld ordering terminals.
