Nokia to introduce S60 5th Edition for software developers

Nokia has unveiled the S60 5th Edition smartphone platform for Symbian OS. The new 5th Edition includes now widescreen mode support, touch feature and an advanced sensor technology. The first handset running this platform is just unveiled Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

The platform is based on popularity of its predecessors which brings new great mobile internet experience supporting browsing with Adobe Flash Lite 3. The S60 5th Edition also features new image and video editors which bring simple capturing and editing pictures and videos.

Integrated S60 Web Runtime now enables creating and customizing Web widgets. So you may now have an access to calendar, contacts, GPS, messaging, audio, and video easier. The platform also supports Open C++ libraries which enable to develop various projects. S60 5th Edition SDK and tools are available for download on Forum Nokia.
