Samsung’s New Application Processor Brings Advanced Multimedia Capabilities to Smart Phones and Personal Navigation Devices
BARCELONA, Spain–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., the world’s leader in advanced semiconductor solutions, introduced today its newest mobile application processor, the S3C6410, which combines a power ARM1176 processor core, clocked at up to 667MHz, and advanced hardware blocks for multimedia processing.
Owing to its rich set integration of system peripherals, the S3C6410 minimizes overall system costs and eliminates the need of many costly external components. Fabricated with Samsung’s advanced 65nm process technology, the chip is designed for portable devices such as smartphones and personal navigation devices (PND).
Samsung’s suite of advanced products for portable consumer applications will be on display at the Mobile World Congress 2008 in Hall 1, Booth #D33 of the Fira de Barcelona, Montjuic.
“Multimedia processing capability is one of the most important drivers for market penetration of advanced mobile devices such as PNDs and smartphones,” said Yiwan Wong, vice president, Marketing Team, System LSI Division, Semiconductor Business, Samsung Electronics. “Understanding the performance requirements of this class of mobile applications, Samsung developed the S3C6410 to include powerful hardware accelerators to handle computation intensive tasks such as motion video processing, 3D graphics, video display control and scaling, thus freeing up the abundant processing cycles on the processor core for other computation and control intensive tasks that are critical for a rich user experience.”
Making access to information anytime, anywhere from mobile devices a reality, Samsung’s new S3C6410 application processor is empowering the development of next generation, multimedia intensive smart phones and personal navigation devices. Developers can now design-in next-generation functionalities such as wireless communication, personal navigation, digital still and video camera, portable gaming, portable music/video player, mobile TV and PDA into a single device.
